Fennel flower extract

Fennel flower (Nigella sativa) belongs to the genus Nigella in the family of buttercups (Ranunculaceae). It is native to West Asia and North Africa, and it is grown in certain areas in Middle Europe. It is an ancient cultivated plant: its seeds were already used as spice in ancient times. Its bioactive compounds are fatty oils, that contain linoleic acid and oleic acid glycerides, and essential oils. It is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids. It has been used in Asia, the Middle-East and Africa for centuries.

Chickweed extract

Chickweed (Stellaria media) is a ground cover weed with small oval leaves. All parts above the ground are suitable for culinary uses, such as in salads, or in cooked dishes and soups giving them a slightly sweet-and-sour taste. Its great advantage lies in the fact that it thrives over several generations throughout the year and so tender plants can be found even in early winter.

Heath speedwell extract

When the Romans occupied the areas inhabited by Germanic peoples in ancient times, they learnt about heath speedwell, a herb most highly appreciated by the inhabitants. It was called the ˝medicine good for all ailments˝, and even nowadays it is commonly named as ˝the medicine of the world˝. It has several other names, such as common gypsyweed, common speedwell, Veronica. This plant prefers dry acid soils and blossoms from May to August. Its flowers are collected for use. Those plants are the most effective that grow on the edges of woods and under oaks.

Artichoke extract, of which cynarine

Artichoke (Cynara cardunculus var. scolymus) is a composite vegetable and herb native to North Africa. It has been popular since the ancient Greeks. In Europe it is cultivated mainly in the Mediterranean area - especially in Spain - but it is also consumed in the northern regions in preserved forms. In Hungary it was kept as an ornamental plant for a long time. It is a tall perennial plant.

Its constituents are

Cynarine, alkaloids, flavonoids, inulin, flavouring compounds, bitter compounds.

Hawthorn extract

Hawthorn, this thorny branched shrub with an extremely long lifespan, and was already reffered to in the ancient times as ˝saviour of the heart˝. Its beneficial effects were proved in the 19th and 20th centuries. This plant belongs to the rose family (Rosaceae) whose certain species are native to the Carpathian Basin. It has been used for centuries in folk medicine. Its bioactive compound is gained from the tea made from the leaves, flowers or fruits of the plant. Hawthorn contains flavonoids (vitexin, hyperoside, rutin), trace amines (phenylethylamine, tyramine), proanthocyanidins and triterpenes.

Garlic extract, of which allicin

It is native to Central and South Asia; due to its pungent flavouring effect it is popular all around the world. Certain ancient peoples attributed magic power to garlic, and it was regarded as a holy plant in Ancient Egypt. People in the middle ages also imputed healing and purifying power to it and they were wearing its clove as an amulet around their neck. The plant’s strong antibacterial and antifungal effect was described by Louis Pasteur in 1858. Later, in 1920, its antibacterial bioactive components, alliin and allicin converted from the former one, were isolated in Switzerland. Garlic also contains carbohydrates, protein, essential minerals and several vitamins (Vitamin A, B, C and E), lending it a powerful antioxidant effect. Allicin (an organosulfur compound) is garlic’s defence mechanism against pests.

Fenugreek extract, of which saponin

This plant is native to the Mediterranean and Western Asia. It was already produced in Ancient times, especially in India and Morocco, and it became widely spread. Its special effect is primarily attributed to the steroid-like saponins (diosgenin, yamogenin, tigogenin, neotigogenin) and mucoid fibers. In Indian, Egyptian (Arabic), Greek and Chinese folk medicine and scientific circles this plant is highly regarded and it is commonly consumed in these countries.

Omega-3

Omega-3 fatty acids have always been present in humanity’s diet but their role played in the body was discovered only in the past decades. Omega-3 is one of the two most important essential fatty acids, that is it cannot be produced by our body and we need to take it from external sources through the food we eat.

Japanese pagoda tree extract, of which rutin

Japanese pagoda tree (Sophora japonica) known and used for thousands of years in traditional Asian folk medicine is a valuable herb in modern phytotherapy. It belongs to the family Fabaceae and can grow even 15-25m tall. Almost every part (flower, bud, leaf, bark, seed) is applied in traditional therapy. The plant’s bud and flower are officially listed both in the Chinese and European medicine book.

Among the typical substances of the Japanese pagoda tree are flavonoids, isoflavonoids, terpenoids and alkaloids. The effects of the tree mainly result from flavonoid (eg. rutin, kempferol, kvercetin, apigenin) and isoflavonoid (eg. genistein, genistin, sophoricoside, orobol) type secondary metabolites. Flavonoids accumulate mostly in the flowers and buds, whereas isoflavonoid-glycosides can be found it the biggest amount in the fruits and seeds. Rutin can be extracted from the flower buds.

Curcuma in nature

Curcuma or turmeric is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plant cultivated in India and Indonesia. Its root is canaliculate. Inside it has an orange, pulpy consistency. In temperate zones turmeric can not be grown in the garden. In the 1870s chemists noticed that the orange colored curcuma root changed its color to red due to alkali. This recognition led to the development of ˝curcuma paper˝ which was widely used in chemical analysis as an indicator of acidity and alkalinity at the end of the 19th century. Later litmus paper took over this task.

In European and American cuisine turmeric is relatively new, but it has a rich history in its homeland India where its well known and has been consumed for thousands of years. Curcuma enriches not only cuisine, but also herbal medicine. In India's traditional Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric is a symbol of wealth. They thought it cleans the whole body. Traditional Chinese doctors also use it. Curcuma has been valued for thousands of years in India because of its benefits, so it is not surprising that most research was conducted there, exploring the main ingredient - the curcumin. Turmericor curcuma has a pleasant taste and aroma but tastes bitter in large quantities.

Rosehips in nature

Since ancient times Rosa canina (dog-rose or hedge-rose) has been considered the queen of flowers. However, this noble plant becomes interesting as a herb after its gorgeous petals have fallen and its yield - the rosehip, which is like a smaller sized cherry, has ripened. The rose-hips are collected when they have a bright red color but are still flexible, that is before the first frosts. Rosehip's most valuable active ingredient is ascorbic acid. Due to its favorable composition and pleasant flavor, rosehip is used both as a herb and as food or drink. Consumed either as tea or as jam, it provides beneficial physiological effects. It is an ideal dietary supplement.

This Medium-term Product contains five different types of microflora in an increased number of germs, as well as Inulin improving efficiency.

Inulin and microflora

Microflora is formed by beneficial, living microorganisms, which survive the acidic environment in the gastrointestinal tract and help maintain the balance of healthy intestinal mircroflora. Our products contain high numbers of bacterial florea and inulin which helps their reproduction.

Probiotics word also known as microflora is of Greek origin meaning life. R. B. Parker was the first who used the term probotic in 1974 for organisms and substances responsible for the balance of intestinal tract. The characteristiscs of probiotics are: human origin, non-pathogenic, resistant to the digestive effects of gastric acid, bile, saliva, pancreatic and intestinal fluids. They retain their resilience in food shelf life and technological processes. In addition, probiotics are capable of adhering to mucosal cells, have antimicrobial activity against potential pathogens, and reduce the adherence of pathogenic microbes to the mucosal surface. Probiotics are mostly lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria. Most of the best-known probiotic lactic acid bacteria strains are Lactobacillus, smaller portion is Streptococcus genus.

Prebiotics are natural nutrients, that are the sole nutrients of probiotics therefore promote their reproduction and prevalance. In the oral cavity and the gastrointestinal tract, the digestive enzymes do not break down the prebiotics and thus can reach the large intestine undigested. Prebiotics are dietary fibers, but water-soluble, therefore one of the best dietary fibers. In addition to their function of dietary fiber, their real utility lies in the fact that they are the exclusive nutrients of probiotics. Because of the lack of digestible nutrition in the large intestine where there is little food, the consumed prebiotics offer the possibility of the reproduction of human-friendly intestinal bacteria.

Many foods contain prebiotics, for example: Jerusalem artichoke, chicory, onions, garlic, leeks, artichokes, whole grains, wheat, banana, flax, spinach, cabbage, chard, mustard, berries, legumes, milk and most mature cheese.

Inulins are a type of prebiotics and actually dietary fibers that reach the large intestine undigested, enhance the reproduction and prevalance of probiotics.

Their role: digestion, balance of the intestinal flora
Our bodies are connected with the outside world through our intestinal system that is about 7-9 meters in length (the largest area in our body). Therefore it is vulnerable by the potential attack of pathogens and toxic substances. Normally there are about 200 to 400 different types of bacterial strains in our bowels. In fetal life beneficial bacteria dominates in 95-98%. Healthy intestinal flora provides protection against a variety of pathogens, ensures the integrity of intestinal mucosa and helps the absorption of the needed nutrients. They produce many essential vitamins for our body. If the gastrointestinal tract's defense mechanisms weaken, it can cause intereference in the absorption processes.

In order for probiotics to be effective in their environment, a large number is required which is at least 108 c.f.u./gram in the body.

What does the c.f.u. expression mean?

c.f.u.: colony-forming units per milliliter, the number of viable microorganisms. The amount of bacteria is usually measured this way in products. However, inulin is given in milligram. As appropriate doses of at least 109 c.f.u. is accepted.

What kind of probiotic products are effective?

-

Prebiotics help the reproduction of probiotics, therefore products should contain inulin or fructo- oligosaccharides.

-

They resist the effects of stomach acid, bile and digestive enzymes, so the live beneficial bacteria can reach the large intestine, where they are able to adhere and reproduce. One essential condition is that the bacteria keep their viability during their passage through the gastrointestinal tract.

-

A good probiotic product should contain at least 5-6 strains, as we intend to make up the intestinal flora's multi-culture.

-

During the warranty period and during technological processes they keep power of resistance.

-

It contains of an appropriate volume of germs, the minimum quantity proposed by
specialist is 108 or 109 c.f.u.
